Would you like to avoid some of the mistakes that other parents make when potty training a child?

This article show you how avoid some of those pit falls.

It is easy to approach potty training with fear and trepidation particularly if your acquaintances bombard you with all their bad stories.

Step 1

Make a decision to approach potty training with confidence. You can do this. Fear breads fear and entering toilet training with fear will produce this in your child.

Step 2

Introduce your child to the potty between the age of 12 and 18 months. Not to do anything but to make it part of everyday life.

Step 3

Planning ahead will enable you to potty train more easily. Look at your diary and select a date when you are going to start full potty training. This should not be at a time when changes or exciting things are going to happen.

Step 4

Work out how long a drink takes to go through your child. Send or take your child to the potty or toilet this number of minutes after he has had a large drink. This will save a lot of accidents.

Step 5

Explain to your child exactly what is expected of him. Use simple language and don’t get angry when he has accidents.

Step 6

Be consistent in the words you use and the instructions you give Make sure everyone involved with your child does and says the same thing including any childcare provider you have.

Step 7

Be consistent in the actions you take. It can be very confusing if you put your child in underwear when in the home and in diapers for the rest of the time.

Step 8

Remind your child to go to the bathroom at regular intervals. Children get engrossed in what they are doing and leave going to the bathroom till it’s too late.

Step 9

Prepare well for any trips you will be making to the Mall or other places. As soon as you arrive make sure you know where the bathroom is situated. Remember a child can’t hold his pee for longer than a minute or even less.

Step 10

Your child will have relapses at some point. Try to minimize any changes in your child or family’s life as much as possible particularly in the early stages of potty training.

To encourage your child in their potty training journey it can help to use a potty training chart and some special stickers.

While many like the looks of elongated toilet seats, round toilet seats are best when it comes to potty training little ones. Remember way back when you were just a tiny tot and it was time for you to use the big potty? Well, if you don’t remember, that’s fine. Most of us have little recollection of this time in our lives. But it’s a safe bet that you had some reservations about sitting on that great big toilet. You might have worried about falling in. This is pretty common among children who are going through potty training and this worry can cause a lot of trouble!

That’s a big reason why it is best to use a round vs. elongated seat for potty training. The opening is smaller, and poses less of a perceived danger to little ones who are just getting the hang of going to the bathroom like a big girl or boy.

What if you have an elongated toilet? You can actually install round toilet seats on elongated toilets for the sake of training. And because round seats aren’t that much smaller, it won’t look horribly wrong. And round seats are much easier for little bottoms to balance on. Don’t forget, your little one’s legs are much shorter than yours too, so an elongated seat may cause further discomfort and worry.

If you plan to use a potty seat on your toilet for your little girl or boy, it will also fit better on a rounded seat, and again, that’s better for balance and safety, and makes your child feel more secure while he is learning the skill of using the toilet. It’s obvious that if your child doesn’t feel secure on the toilet, potty training is going to be a much longer and more dramatic process than it needs to be or that you want it to be.

If all the toilets in your house have elongated seats, consider rounded toilet seats for one or more of them, at least the toilet in the bathroom closest to your child’s bedroom. For the most comfort and security, pick a round seat that is made from wood or other sturdy material, like the round Comfort Seats Designer Solid Wood Toilet Seat with PVD Brass Hinges in walnut or mahogany. You can also try a round toilet seat that is made from sturdy plastic such as the American Standard EverClean Round Front Plastic Toilet Seat with Slow Close Hinges. This seat has an added advantage because it has hinges that make it close slowly, so little fingers don’t pinched. [http://www.unique-toilet-seats.com]Round toilet seats are the safe and secure choice for potty training. Your little girl or boy needs to be able to sit securely, whether directly on the seat, or on a potty seat that is positioned on your toilet seat. Round seats are best for this purpose and encourage your child to try potty training without fear or hesitation.
